The Indiana Library Association (now the Indiana Library Federation) held its annual conference at the Hotel Lincoln in Indianapolis, Indiana. Conference officials persuaded the hotel to change its rules and allow African American attendees to use the elevators in order to gain access to conference sessions held on the upper floors of the hotel. Despite this change, the hotel still refused to let African Americans book rooms at the hotel.
