Sage & the Joint Council of Librarians of Color Inc. (JCLC Inc.) scholarship will award one LIS student from each NALCo organization with a $2,000 scholarship to support them as they pursue a graduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in the library and information sciences.

Persons Wishing to Apply Must:
- Be an African American Citizen of the United States or Canada.
- Be enrolled or accepted by an ALA-accredited graduate program leading to a degree in library and information science at the time of application.
- Be a current BCALA member.
- Commit to submitting a 500-800 word blog during the school year (time TBD), articulating how the award benefited them and any additional prompts determined by Sage for their blog use.
Special Instructions:
- Include a cover letter providing the applicant’s name, address, phone number, graduate program, school name, and anticipated graduation date.
- Essay submissions must be in plain text, Microsoft Word format, to be mailed electronically as an attachment.
- Only essays submitted electronically will be considered. Please include SAGE & JCLC Inc. NALCo LIS Student Scholarship in the subject line of your electronic submission. The essay must be typed, double-spaced.
- Submit a 2-3 page essay on leadership and what leadership in LIS means to the applicant. Applicants should include examples of their leadership skills demonstrated in their undergrad journey, the environment of the workplace, volunteer commitments, and community engagements. In addition, the applicant should share how they may intend to be a LIS leader in the profession, in BCALA, ALA, and other organizations, at their institutions, and in their local, state, and national communities.
- A minimum of six bibliographical references in MLA style should be included.
- The application deadline will be June 8, 2023, and the winner will be notified by July 31, 2023.
