Denyvetta Davis, Immediate Past President

Denyvetta Davis is a retired administrator from the Metropolitan Library System in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Denyvetta was the systems’ first African American administrator serving as Director of Library Operations supervising managers of 19 libraries serving citizens of Oklahoma County.

Prior to this position, Denyvetta served as Manager of the prestigious Ralph Ellison Library where she received numerous local state and national awards/honors including the Oklahoma Governor’s Art Award for Community Service and the American Library Association’s prestigious John Cotton Dana Award.

Denyvetta is the co-author of Ralph Ellison: A Biography with Bob Burke, a noted Oklahoma historian; wrote the Forward for “These Words, A Collection of Verse” by the Society of Urban Poets, and was Editor of “What’s in a Name: Footprints of African American Trailblazers Publicly Honored in OKC” written by Bettye Wedgeworth. She is currently working on two projects to be released in 2018 and 2020.

Denyvetta has extensive nonprofit management experience. She has served in various leadership roles within her church and community organizations.

Denyvetta is a Life Member of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association.

Denyvetta has a B.S in Business Administration and Masters in Instructional Media from the University of Central Oklahoma, a Masters in Science in Library Service from Atlanta University and doctoral courses at the University of Oklahoma.
