The Black Caucus of the American Library Association , Inc presents the following awards at the

7th National Conference of African-American Librarians

August 4-8, 2010, Birmingham, AL

CRITERIA AND ELIGIBILITY

 

7th National Conference of African American Librarians Awards & Honors
Nominees are being accepted for the following awards:
BCALA APPRECIATION AWARD
Criteria: Nominee should have made an unusual and significant contribution to the effectiveness of the Black Caucus, the African-American community and to the programs and activities of the BCALA. There is no minimum or maximum number of years of participation needed to be eligible for this award.
Eligibility: Open to all active and retired members of the Black Caucus or to those who, having seen the opportunity, volunteered their services to enhance the growth of BCALA.
 
Distinguished Service to BCALA Award

Criteria: Nominee should have demonstrated, over a period of years, significant and continuous service to the on-going operation, organization and growth of the Black Caucus of ALA. Exceptional progress in his/her career development that has resulted in specific and extraordinary service to the BCALA.

Eligibility: Open to active and retired members of BCALA.

 
BCALA Library Advocacy Award
Criteria: Nominee should have demonstrated dedicated commitment in support of library and information services to African American and other ethnic communities. Area of advocacy may include: professional development, affirmative, funding, library legislation, and other activities that have enhanced access to information to the underserved and in combating discrimination in the library profession.
 
BCALA Professional Achievement Award
Criteria: Nominee should have exhibited meritorious achievement and distinction in the field of African-American librarianship. The achievement must have exceeded that normally expected of professionals assigned to similar tasks.

Eligibility: Open to active and retired BCALA members in all types of library and information science careers.

 
BCALA Tyson Leadership Award
Criteria: Nominee should have demonstrated significant and continuous service to the library profession that has resulted in their recognition as a leader in the profession. The areas of leadership should include, among others, scholarship, professional development, library education and professional activities on the local or national levels.
 
BCALA Distinguished Service to the Library Profession Award
Criteria: Nominee must have made significant and extraordinary contributions in service to the library profession, such as introducing new concepts, providing exceptional leadership, or setting unprecedented standards for participation in the profession.
Eligibility: Open to active or retired BCALA members in all types of library and information science agencies and organization.
